The rich often get richer when it comes to college football recruiting, and that was the case Sunday when the defending Big Ten champion Ohio State Buckeyes added a dynamic wide receiver to their 2019 class.

Garrett Wilson, who is a 5-star prospect on 247Sports’ composite rankings, announced he committed to the Buckeyes via his Twitter page:

According to 247Sports’ composite rankings, the 6’0″ and 185-pound Wilson is the 29th-best player, the fifth-best wide receiver and the fourth-best player from Texas in his class.

Perhaps the best part for Ohio State is the fact Wilson will apparently help its recruiting process in one of the nation’s biggest football hotbeds moving forward:

There is already a heavy Texas flavor on the Scarlet and Gray’s roster, considering running back J.K. Dobbins, cornerback Jeffrey Okudah, cornerback Kendall Sheffield, offensive lineman Demetrius Knox and linebacker Baron Browning all hail from the Lone Star State. So did quarterback J.T. Barrett, who is now headed to the NFL as an undrafted free agent.

Wilson isn’t even the only player from Lake Travis High School’s offense on the Buckeyes, as quarterback Matthew Baldwin was part of their 2018 recruiting class. The school in Austin, Texas, is the same one that produced Heisman Trophy-winning signal-caller Baker Mayfield.

Ohio State wide receivers coach Zach Smith seemed pleased with the news:

“The relationship with Coach Meyer we built pretty fast,” Wilson said while discussing his choice of Ohio State over the local Texas Longhorns, among others, per Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports. “You see him on TV and you feel like you know him, but you don’t know him till you’ve talked to him. My parents love him and already feel comfortable handing me over to him when it’s time to go to college and I was comfortable as well. I’d say he was the game-breaker.”

Wiltfong pointed to Wilson’s leaping ability and catch radius, saying he “plays the position like he’s 6-foot-6” with ball skills that “are in the discussion as the best in America.”

Wilson is also a quick playmaker in the open field and figures to serve as a vertical threat and someone who can take bubble screens for Ohio State and turn them into game-breaking plays.

He joins an explosive Buckeyes offense that was third in the nation in total yards and fifth in total points during the 2017 campaign.
