Chennai Make a Statement

Sunrisers came into Sunday’s match against Super Kings as the only team to have qualified for the play-offs and clear favourites for the title, but Chennai halted their lengthy winning streak in dominant fashion.

Hyderabad had won six straight to book their spot in the play-offs, last losing on April 22nd at home. Their opponents in that contest? Super Kings, who won by four runs.

Rayudu was the star man in Sunday’s chase, scoring an unbeaten century. Per Harsha Bhogle, he has adapted well to his new role for Chennai:

One loss after such a great run isn’t cause for concern for Sunrisers, but the fact it came against Chennai―again―is something to keep an eye on. One has to assume Hyderabad would prefer to avoid Super Kings in the play-offs, and a matchup against a struggling Kings XI side would be much more appealing, for example.

Patience Key for Royals

Rajasthan lost just three wickets in their chase against Mumbai, riding Jos Buttler’s unbeaten 94 to an easy win over last year’s champions.

Per Broken Cricket, the 27-year-old has been in sensational form of late:

Mumbai came into the match on a three-match win streak but never got the bats going, and while their bowlers did a reasonable job limiting the run rate early, they didn’t take nearly enough wickets to complicate the chase.

What’s Next?

Kings XI will try to right the ship and push for a play-off spot against Royal Challengers.
