The first trailer for the upcoming anti-superhero movie The Crow has finally been released, gearing up for its premiere in theaters on June 7. Bill Skarsgård, known for his role as Pennywise in the It films, stars as Eric Draven, also known as The Crow, in this reimagining of James O’Barr’s graphic novel. The trailer showcases Draven’s newfound powers following the tragic death of his beloved Shelley, portrayed by British artist FKA Twigs.
Throughout the trailer, we witness the undead vigilante enduring multiple gunshots as he continues his quest for vengeance. This film promises to be a bloody spectacle, complete with plenty of gore and even an exploding head. The official synopsis reads: “Soulmates Eric Draven (Skarsgård) and Shelly Webster (FKA twigs) are brutally murdered when the demons of her dark past catch up with them. Given the chance to save his true love by sacrificing himself, Eric sets out to seek merciless revenge on their killers, traversing the worlds of the living and the dead to right the wrongs.”
In conjunction with the trailer release, Skarsgård shared a message with the press:
“I grew up loving the original movie and felt incredibly privileged to step into the shoes of Eric Draven. What really drew me to this project was Rupert Sanders’ vision for it. He aimed to completely reinvent the narrative and the character to appeal to a contemporary audience. Eric is a character that holds a special place in many hearts, and he is unlike any other character I’ve portrayed. Collaborating with the immensely talented FKA Twigs was a magical experience. I felt a deep sense of responsibility towards Eric’s story and strived to honor the essence of the source material; I am excited for the world to witness the film and hope it resonates with viewers as deeply as it did with us.” Director Rupert Sanders mentioned that this new adaptation of The Crow “returns” to O’Barr’s original graphic novel, marking three decades since Brandon Lee starred in the iconic The Crow under the direction of Alex Proyas.
