Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra’s dream home turned into a complete nightmare when their luxurious California mansion suffered water damage and a mold infestation. This unfortunate situation has sparked an ongoing legal battle, as revealed exclusively by Page Six.
Back in September 2019, the couple purchased this extravagant property for a whopping $20 million. It boasted an impressive seven bedrooms, nine bathrooms, and a range of incredible amenities including a chef’s kitchen, temperature-controlled wine room, indoor basketball court, bowling alley, home theater, entertainment lounge, spa with steam shower, full-service gym, and a billiards room.
However, things took a turn for the worse around April 2020. According to a lawsuit filed in May 2023, which Page Six exclusively obtained a copy of, the pool and spa started causing problems for the newlyweds. The complaint states that “porous waterproofing” led to mold contamination and related issues. Additionally, a water leak appeared at the barbecue area on the deck.
These problems made the house virtually unlivable and posed health risks. As a result, Jonas and Chopra are seeking to rescind the purchase and sale, claiming substantial damage and a failure of consideration. Their attorneys argue that they should be reimbursed for repair costs and compensated for the loss of use and other damages caused by the defendants’ conduct.
While the exact costs are yet to be determined, the complaint estimates that the waterproofing issues alone will exceed $1.5 million, with general damages estimated at around $2.5 million. Page Six spoke exclusively with lawyer Fred Fenster, who represents the trustee. He explained that the legal process has been delayed due to everyone involved suing one another to shift the blame.
It’s certainly a challenging situation for Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra, who had hoped for their dream home but ended up facing unexpected troubles.
The trustee took legal action against the builder, who then counter-sued the sub-contractors, and the sub-contractors in turn filed lawsuits against their own workers,” he explains.
“It’s like everyone who worked on the property will be involved, and it’s up to the builder to determine and prove who is responsible for the defects.”
Meanwhile, we’re told that Jonas, 31, and Chopra, 41, have temporarily moved into another home with their 2-year-old daughter, Malti, while repairs are being made to their luxurious house. It’s unclear when the couple plans to move back, but according to a source, the residence is currently unoccupied and not being rented.
According to public records, it seems that in August 2023, amidst the ongoing lawsuit, the trustee entered into a deed of trust and assignment of rents agreement with the lender of the home.
However, Fenster clarifies that this doesn’t indicate any financial issues on the part of Jonas or Chopra. It’s simply a standard procedure to provide security for the loan.
