Defending champion Kalinskaya caused a surprise with her victory over world number one Swiatek at the 2024 Dubai Championships. He will face Paolini in the final. qAnna Kalinskaya pulled off an upset over world No. 1 Iga Swiatek 6-4, 6-4 to qualify for the Dubai Championship final, a WTA 1000 event. She will face Italian Jasmine Paolini in her first tour final. Paolini, 14th ahead of Kalinskaya, advanced to the final with a win over Romania’s Sorana Cirstea. 6-2, 7-6(6) in the first semifinal. Kalinskaya’s journey to the final makes her only the second qualifier to achieve this feat in a WTA 1000 event since Caroline Garcia in Cincinnati two years ago. Kalinskaya, aged 25, claimed her third Top 10 victory of the week after defeating Jelena Ostapenko in the third round and Coco Gauff in the quarterfinals.
