The Michael Jackson biopic has some big shoes to fill with its cast. Lionsgate announced in January 2023 that they were working on a film called Michael, which will focus on the King of Pop’s life. Jaafar Jackson, Michael’s nephew and Jermaine Jackson’s son, will be taking on the role of the late pop singer. Director Antoine Fuqua expressed his excitement about Jaafar’s portrayal, mentioning the spiritual connection he felt and Jaafar’s natural ability to emulate Michael. Alongside Jaafar, the film will feature other notable stars like Colman Domingo and Miles Teller. In January 2024, Lionsgate also revealed that 9-year-old Juliano Krue Valdi will play a young Michael during his rise to fame with the Jackson 5. Fuqua explained that finding a child actor with the talent to embody Michael’s spirit was a challenge, but Juliano’s undeniable talent secured him the role. This will be Juliano’s first feature film, and Jaafar Jackson was chosen for the adult role after an extensive worldwide casting search. The cast is certainly shaping up to bring Michael’s story to life on the big screen. King expressed his amazement at how Jaafar naturally embodies the essence and character of Michael. He enthusiastically shared his excitement about Jaafar joining the cast to portray his uncle and eagerly anticipates the world witnessing his portrayal of Michael Jackson on the big screen. Although this will be Michael’s first foray into acting, Jaafar is no stranger to the entertainment industry. Deadline reports that Jaafar has been singing and dancing since he was 12 years old. He has also been involved in various family-oriented projects throughout the years, including his appearances in The Jacksons: Next Generation in 2015 and Tito Jackson’s music video “Love One Another” in 2021.
