Dev Patel, the Oscar-nominated actor, is stepping into the director’s chair for the first time with the thrilling revenge story “Monkey Man.” This action-packed film, produced by Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions, will hit theaters on April 5 under the Universal Pictures banner. The highly-anticipated trailer for the movie was released on Friday morning.

In “Monkey Man,” Patel takes on the role of Kid, a young man who leads a humble existence in an underground fight club. Night after night, he endures brutal beatings from more popular fighters, all while wearing a gorilla mask, just to earn some money. The film draws inspiration from the Hindu deity Hanuman, adding a unique twist to the story.

The logline of the film sets the stage for an intense journey: “After years of pent-up anger, Kid discovers a way to infiltrate the inner circle of the city’s corrupt elite. As his childhood trauma resurfaces, his mysteriously scarred hands become the catalyst for a vengeful rampage against the men who robbed him of everything.”
