Crafted under the direction of the esteemed Michael Showalter and penned by the talented duo of Showalter and Jennifer Westfeldt, The Concept of You follows the journey of Solène (portrayed by the exquisite Hathaway), a mature single mother at the age of 40 who sets out on a new adventure. second chance at love after a serendipitous encounter with 24-year-old Hayes Campbell (portrayed by Galitzine), the charismatic lead singer of August Moon, the hottest boy band on the planet. When Solène’s ex-husband (played by Reid Scott) unexpectedly cancels on taking their teenage daughter (played by Ella Rubin) to the Coachella music festival in Southern California, she steps up to chaperone and unexpectedly crosses paths with Hayes. While an instant connection ignites between them, Solène initially hesitates to pursue a relationship with someone much younger and constantly hounded by paparazzi and adoring fans. Author Robinne Lee drew inspiration for her sensational debut novel, The Idea of You, in 2017. She stumbled upon the face of a boy she had never seen before in a band she had never paid attention to while browsing music videos on YouTube late at night. This encounter sparked her creativity, and as she delved deeper into her research on One Direction, she combined her findings with elements from other real-life men, such as Prince Harry, Eddie Redmayne, some of her ex-partners, and even her own husband, to craft the fictional character of Hayes.Lee previously informed Vogue that the intention behind the book was never to focus on Harry Styles. Instead, it was meant to be a narrative centered around a woman in her late thirties reclaiming her sexuality and rediscovering herself. This transformation occurs at a time when society typically disregards women as desirable, viable, and complete individuals.
