Omar, a representative from Minnesota, is joining others in urging the Pentagon to take responsibility for a U.S. drone strike that resulted in the death of a woman and her 4-year-old daughter. She is specifically calling on the Pentagon to reach out to the family and provide compensation. Omar believes that it is important to acknowledge the truth of what happened, offer the compensation that Congress has authorized, and allow independent investigations into these attacks. She also criticizes the flawed U.S. drone program, which she believes has caused the deaths of many innocent people over the past 20 years. Omar’s call for action is supported by other elected officials and human rights organizations. The U.S. military investigation into the 2018 attack in Somalia acknowledged the deaths of a woman and child but was unable to determine their identities. Despite the family’s efforts to contact the U.S. government, they have received no response.
