Kensington Palace announced Wednesday that the Princess of Wales has been admitted to hospital following a scheduled abdominal surgery and will remain in a private clinic in London for up to two weeks.
Shortly after news of Duchess Kate’s hospitalization broke, Buckingham Palace announced that King Charles III was in hospital. Next week she will undergo “corrective surgery” for an enlarged prostate.
The palace said the 75-year-old monarch seeks treatment for an enlarged prostate “like thousands of other men every year”.
“While it is unusual for members of the royal family to provide detailed information about their own health, the publicity of Prince Charles’ disclosures has led to public health concerns for other men who may be experiencing symptoms.
The Palace did not provide further details about the Princess of Wales’ hospitalization, but confirmed that her condition was not cancerous. The medical issues come after a tumultuous few years for the royal family, which included the Platinum Jubilee in 2022, the death of Queen Elizabeth II a few months later, and the coronation of Prince Charles in 2023.
The Princess, formerly Duchess Kate, is expected to return to royal duties after Easter.
“The Princess of Wales appreciates the interest this statement will generate,” Kensington Palace said.

Kate in particular continues to be the queen of the public eye. She is a smiling mother of three children who can be found comforting her grieving parents in her pediatric hospice or surprising the nation by playing the piano at a televised Christmas concert.
Palace has said it would like to apologize to Prince William’s wife Kate for postponing her upcoming engagement.
