The art of whispering, long forgotten, will undoubtedly be revived by terrified survivors in the chaotic post-apocalyptic world of “A Quiet Place: Day One,” as evidenced by the newly-released trailer. Paramount has surprised us with a chilling preview of the official prequel to the 2018 sci-fi thriller “A Quiet Place,” which captivated audiences as the Abbott family fought against blind extraterrestrial invaders with incredibly sensitive hearing, using sound to track and hunt their prey.
This gripping origin story comes from the talented filmmaker John Krasinski, who not only directed the original film but also its 2021 sequel, “A Quiet Place: Part II.” It unequivocally demonstrates that silence is of utmost importance in this eerie world teeming with alien beings. “Day One” was brought to life through a collaboration between Krasinski, who conceived the plotline, and Michael Sarnoski, the director of the feature film, who penned the screenplay. The cast includes the Academy Award-winning Lupita Nyong’o (“12 Years a Slave,” “Us”), Joseph Quinn from “Stranger Things,” Alex Wolff, Denis O’Hare, and the seasoned performer Djimon Hounsou, reprising his role as the Man on the Island from “A Quiet Place: Part II,” as bewildered Earthlings encounter the noise-sensitive invaders for the very first time.
In the initial trailer, Nyong’o’s character gracefully walks down a bustling street in New York City, cradling her pet cat, while blazing meteors streak across the sky, unleashing legions of sightless extraterrestrial creatures upon the unsuspecting inhabitants of the Big Apple. These creatures wreak havoc on anyone foolish enough to make even the slightest sound. Fortunately, Hounsou comes to Nyong’o’s rescue, urging her to remain silent at all costs as the marauding monsters turn fleeing pedestrians into their next meal.
Both “A Quiet Place” films were resounding triumphs for John Krasinski, the former star of “The Office,” amassing an astounding $637 million in combined global box office revenue for the sci-fi horror franchise. Currently, “A Quiet Place 3” is in development, with a planned release in 2025.
