A pilot for a sequel to Wizards of Waverly Place has been ordered by Disney Channel, Variety has confirmed.
Original series lead David Henry is set to star in and executive produce the potential series. Original series star Selena Gomez will guest star in the pilot and serve as an executive producer. Henry will continue to play Justin Russo, and Gomez will continue to play Alex Russo. Other cast members in the pilot include Janis Leanne Brown, Arcaio Thiele, and Mimi Gianopoulos. Disney Brand Television is behind this series.
The official description for the series says, “It begins after a mysterious incident in Wiztech.Adult Justin Russo lives a normal human life with his wife (Giannopoulos) and two sons (one of them).” He abandons his magical powers in favor of life (played by Thiele), but when a powerful young wizard (Brown) in need of training shows up at his door, he faces a surprising situation. .And Justin must confront his past to secure the future of the wizarding world.”
Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas are the pilot’s writers and executive producers. , the duo previously worked on Disney’s sequel series Raven’s Home. In addition to them, Gomez and Henry have Gary Marsh and Andy Fickman as executive producers, with Fickman directing the pilot episode.
The original Wizards of Waverly Place was one of the most popular Disney Channel shows of its time. The film ran for four seasons from 2007 to 2012. During this time, Disney also produced the Disney Channel original film Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie.
